The Madonna della Neve shrine (as it was opened the day dedicated to the “Holy Virgin of the Snow”, on August 5, 1640) is also called Forcella shrine, from the name of the hill where it is located at 630 m a.t.s.l. It was built on a belvedere on the street which used to connect Predalunga to the coti stones mines during XVII Century.
In fact, after the plague, the local population wanted to thank the Virgin Mary for helping them to survive the epidemic.
The shrine was enlarged in the early XX Century by the architect Elia Fornoni. On the inside, you can admire a beautiful painting of Our Lady of Sorrows, which was formerly placed in a chapel now replaced by the church.
Moreover, the shrine was decorated by the local painter Giacomo Nembrini and frescoed by Giovanni Cavalleri with female figures from the Old Testament.
